![]() This little fellow started it all. As far as I can tell, he's a 'Rose-Breasted Grosbeak.' | ![]() Then it was this noisy character. My book says 'Hairy WoodPecker', though he may be a 'Downy WoodPecker.' If you know better: DROP ME A LINE |
![]() Speaking of noises, this 'Mourning Dove' makes a soft and persistent plaintive 'woo' that is very strange to wake up to from a sound sleep. | ![]() As long as we are in the less exotic birds, I will show you this handsome 'Chipping Sparrow.' When I lived in a more suburban area, sparrows were far and away the most numerous birds. Not so, here. |
![]() The sparrows happily share this feeder with these 'Tufted Titmouses' (mice?) It seems they tolerate the sparrows but not most other birds. Interesting. | ![]() Another frequent guest to this feeder is this 'White-Breasted Nuthatch.' It is one of the birds that does NOT get along with the Tufted Titmouses. |
![]() I put out oranges for Orioles and get 'House Finches.' When I first spotted this one out of the corner of my eye I thought it was a gruesomely bloodied sparrow. As with most of these birds, I grabbed my camera and snapped a quick shot for later ID. | ![]() It's a 'Junco', a grey Junco, I think. He's a rather plain little fellow, but I like him nonetheless. |
![]() These would be 'Goldfinches.' In a fit of cutesyness I have decided to call them 'Mr. and Mrs. Goldfinch.' They are pretty much always at the feeder together. Other than chipmunks, their chirp does the best job of waking my dogs from a sound sleep to run aroooing out the doggie door onto the deck to scare the birds away. | ![]() Nice, Huh? A first spring male 'Indigo Bunting' stopped by one Saturday. He has made it a habit to return frequently thereafter. I like this bird a lot because, like flowers and food, there just aren't that many of them that are BLUE. |
![]() 'Ruby-Throated Hummingbird.' I have nicknamed these little rockets. I call them 'Bumble-Birds.' It is a sheer joy to have these exciting little creatures frequenting my feeder. | ![]() Once in a while we get an overload of these little guys hanging around the same feeder and they start fighting and twittering at one another. Weird! |
![]() All you birders out there...I NEED YOUR HELP! As best I can tell, this is a young male 'Baltimore Oriole'. If you can confirm this, or otherwise ID this industrious bird, please email me. | ![]() While we are at it...can anyone tell me what kind of tree this bird is sitting in? It is a small tree and flowers every year, but we don't know the type. |
![]() We were lucky enough to have this guy and his mate flying around and through our yard every afternoon. I was lucky enough to get this shot of him out my daughter's window! | ![]() I took this photo at my Mom's house. A 'Robin' had built a nest in the window of her garden shed. She summoned me to take a photo. |
